If you have registered online for the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2017, please read the following event day information.

When and where is event sign in?

All cyclists must sign in at Bantry Fire Station, which is located on the main square in Bantry. Only a limited number of registrations will be accepted on the Friday night and Saturday morning. 

Sign in Times:

  • Friday 7th July 7pm-9.00pm
  • Saturday 8th July 7am-8.30am

What do I need to bring to sign in?

You will need to bring the confirmation email that you received from Eventmaster when registering for the cycle. Registration will be by Bike Number (which can be found in the attachment to the confirmation email sent by Eventmaster)

What do you get at sign in?
You will receive an event pack which includes:

  • Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle Technical T Shirt.
  • Wristband- (You will need to wear your wristband to access the food stops, Barbeque at Bantry Fire Station and showers in the Maritime Hotel after the cycle.)
  • Kinetica Energy Drink and Bars
  • Vouchers for hotels, bars, restaurants.

Note regarding T Shirts. All participants who have registered online will receive a free T Shirt. Our supplier has estimated the sizes so participants are advised to sign on as early as possible in order to guarantee that you receive your correct size T Shirt.

What time does the cycle start?

9.00am from the Fire Station in Bantry. If you wish to leave earlier you may do so, but you may not have the support of stewards, mechanical or medical cover or food stops on the route. Also the foodstop in Goleen will not be set up until 10am.

What facilities are on the day?
On the 3 routes the food, water and toilet facilities will be located as follows:

130km Route

  • Goleen (35km)
  • Durrus (90km)

100km Route

  • Goleen (35km)
  • Durrus (90km)

 65km Route

  • Goleen (35km)
  • Durrus (55km)

 The Durrus food stop will provide sustenance for cyclists on the 130km route, however, if you feel the need you are more than welcome to stop. This food station is being run by Durrus Men’s Shed in conjunction with the Durrus Family Festival; they are roasting a pig on a spit and will have roast pork sandwiches available at a cost of €2. Bananas, Gels, Brack, Bars and Water will be available free to all cyclists.

Water will also be available at Mizen Head (100km and 130km routes) and at the top of the Goat’s Path on the 130km Sheeps Head route.

Do I have to stick to the route I indicated when registering?

Not at all, if you feel good on the day you can go for one of the longer routes. Similarly, there are some sneaky short-cuts available!

Are the roads closed?
There are no road closures for this event. Participants must obey the rules of the road at all times.

What do I need to bring on the cycle?

  • Your bike must be road worthy and in good working order
  • Helmet (every cyclist is required the wear a helmet)
  • Water and snacks
  • Spare tubes and pump
  • Mobile phone and emergency phone number
  • Windproof top – hopefully it won’t be needed!

Where will the cycle finish?
The cycle will finish at Bantry Fire Station where there will be a massive BBQ. Showers will be available at the Maritime hotel (if wearing your wristband). Live music will be provided by the Quays Bar and the Bantry Bay Hotel.

What about car parking?
There are 2 designated car parks which will be signposted on the Saturday morning. Please park your car in one of the 2 designated car parks and cycle down to sign-on at the Fire Station. Bike racks will be available outside the Fire Station.
