WILD ATLANTIC MIZEN CYCLE - 13 JULY 2024

ROUTE MAPS

The Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle will start and finish in Bantry, West Cork.

There will be three routes, 130 km, 100 km and 65km; the routes will follow the rugged Wild Atlantic Way taking in the stunning scenery of the Mizen peninsula. The 130k route will keep to the Wild Atlantic Way around the Sheeps Head Peninsula.

Route Description
The 130k and 100k routes head from Bantry to Durrus and over the side of Mount Gabriel (giving fabulous views of Roaring Water Bay and the Islands) to Schull. From there the route heads west to a food-stop in Goleen and on by Crookhaven and Barley Cove to the Mizen Head. After Mizen Head, we follow the spectacular coast road back to Durrus Village. The 130k route heads out the Sheeps Head to take on the Goats Path challenge; the 100k route goes directly back to Bantry from Durrus. Both routes are challenging, (the 130K route includes 1500m of climbing with a very challenging climb at the 105km mark), but the rewards are well worth the effort as all along the route you will see some of the most picturesque and beautiful West Cork scenery.

The 65km route also goes from Bantry to Durrus but avoids climbing Mount Gabriel by going to the food-stop at Goleen through Toormore. After Goleen the route joins the spectacular Coast Road on the North side of the peninsula and heads back towards Durrus Village. Although it is impossible to get a flat route in West Cork, this is not a very hilly route overall! A flatter route is taken back to Bantry from Durrus.

There will be a post-Cycle party in Bantry afterwards led by a barbeque in the fire station.
