10 October 2022

The Emergency Services have run a charity cycle in West Cork for the last 18 years raising over €562,000 to date for local charities and Community projects. A total of 74 organisations have now benefited from the Cycle.

This year we are delighted to have raised €30561.81 for our beneficiaries.

The Cycle’s finances are totally transparent; are on our social media pages and this website below; every effort is made to maximise the money going to the beneficiaries and to minimise the costs.

2022 Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle Beneficiaries:

€10000 – Clonakilty Red Cross

€4500 – St. Josephs National School, Special Needs Class

€5000 – Bantry Tidy Towns

€2500 – Bantry Marine Activity Centre

€1500 – Cycle Sense

€1000 – Bantry Development & Tourism Association

€5061.81 – Bantry Sports Hub

Donations of €500 were also presented to Schull Community Care and Durrus Mens Shed in recognition of the contribution their organisations made to the cycle.

Presentation of cheques to beneficiaries took place this evening in The Mariner, Bantry.

Once again a huge thanks to the cyclists who took part, our main sponsor PQMS Training, our local sponsors and also the many volunteers who made the day such a success.

An announcement on the 2023 Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle will be made in the coming weeks.

9 March 2021

Event Update
Thank you for your patience while we have been assessing whether not The Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2021 can take place.
We regret to announce that the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2021 will be postponed to July 2022 due to the uncertainty surrounding public health guidelines regarding outdoor events this summer. We have left it as long as we could to announce this in the hope that we would be in a position to run the event, however we feel that this is in the best interests of all; taking into consideration the health and well-being of cyclists, our volunteers and those living locally here in West Cork.
Those cyclists who have deferred from the cancelled 2020 event will be transferred to next year’s event which is planned for 9th July 2022 and will receive an email today confirming same.
A very sincere thank you to the many cyclists who donated their 2020 registration fee to charity: we were able to distribute €7300 to our beneficiaries in September 2020.

Thank you all again for your patience.
See you in July 2022.

23 December 2020

We would like to wish all of our Cyclists and Supporters a very Happy Christmas.
It’s been a tough year and we are very thankful to everyone for their support and their patience.

We hope to see you all on the West Cork roads again in July next year.

We will update you all on next years cycle as early as we can in the new year once we have guidance on what the regulations governing outdoor sporting events are.

15 September 2020

Thanks to the generosity of all those who chose to donate their 2020 Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle registration to charity, we are delighted to announce that we have €7300 to donate to our 2020 as follows:

Bantry Tidy Towns: €1000
Bantry Development & Tourism Assoc: €1000

A huge thank you once again to all those who chose to donate their 2020 registration to our beneficiaries.

The 2021 cycle is scheduled to take place on 10th July 2021. 295 cyclists have had their registration deferred to next year. All those who donated to this years beneficiaries will be emailed a link to register in advance of registration opening.

Normally we open registrations in January. For next years cycle, registrations will probably not open until March / April 2021 depending on what restrictions on events are in place then or may be in place next July. We will post any updates on our Social Media pages and our website.

We hope to see you all in West Cork next July.

23 June 2020

We have today finished processing all donations, deferrals and refunds from the preferences that cyclists selected. Of the 500 people that had registered to do the cycle, 318 people selected a preference as to what to do with their 2020 registration.

The breakdown of the preferences selected is as follows:
146 people selected the Donate option
113 people selected the Defer to 2021 option
59 people selected the Refund option

As regards the remaining 182 people who did not select an option, their entries have been automatically deferred to the 2021 cycle.

All cyclists have been emailed today confirming their selected preference.

A huge thank you again to all those who selected the donate option. Through your generosity we have €7300 to divide between our chosen beneficiaries for this year which we will do in the next few weeks.

Finally, as we do each year, included below is a breakdown of our accounts for 2020.

We hope to see you all in West Cork next July for the 2021 cycle.

2 June 2020

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to make the decision to CANCEL the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2020.

We can confirm that The Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2021 will go ahead on Saturday 10th July 2021.

Participants had from 17th April 2020 until yesterday (1st June) to select what they wanted to do with their registration for this year’s cycle. All participants were also emailed twice.

For anybody who chose not to respond, their registration and donation (if any) will be automatically deferred to the 2021 event. For anyone who selected to receive a refund, we aim to have all refunds processed before 30th June 2020. An email will issue to all participants before 30th June 2020 confirming their selected preference.

We look forward to welcoming all participants back to West Cork for the 2021 event on Saturday 10th July 2021 and we want to thank all current registrants, volunteers, sponsors and charities for their ongoing support

Details of the opening date for registrations for the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2021 will follow in due course.

17 April 2020

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the continuing uncertainties regarding events being allowed to take place, after much deliberation, we have had to make the decision to CANCEL the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2020. This decision was not taken lightly and along with the health and safety of all participants and volunteers, our chosen beneficiaries were at the fore of our decision. This years Beneficiaries are Clonakilty Red Cross, Bantry Development & Tourism Association, Special Needs Class of St. Joseph’s NS Skibbereen, Bantry Tidy Towns, Cycle Sense and Bantry Marine Activity Centre.

Our event is a not for profit event limited to 500 cyclists every year. It has always and will always be a fund raising event for our beneficiaries. We have always been very open and transparent about how any monies we have raised have been used by posting our accounts each year on our website, on our social media platforms and also emailing same to every one of our cyclists. Accounts for all previous years that the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle has taken place are in the various News pages on our website and are still on our social media platforms. This year will be no different. Once all registrant’s options have been processed we will again email details of our accounts for 2020 to all our participants and also post same online.

We can confirm that The Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2021 will go ahead on Saturday 10th July 2021. All our beneficiaries have also been informed of this year’s cancellation and will remain the chosen beneficiaries for the 2021 event.

We will be emailing all registered participants today, providing them with a choice of what to do with their current registration; this will be followed up with a reminder email to all participants again in three weeks time. Recognising the difficult circumstances that cyclists, charities and our volunteers find themselves in at this challenging time, all registrants will be offered 3 choices:

  • Donate your 2020 registration fee to our 2020 Beneficiaries.

Note: anyone who selects this option will be sent a link to pre register for the 2021 Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle, one week before public registration opens.

  • Defer your registration to the 2021 Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle on Saturday 10th July 2021.
  • Refund of your registration fee.

Note: our registration fee was €55. Contained in that registration fee was a registration processing fee of €5 which was taken by our ticketing company. Unfortunately this processing fee cannot be refunded because we simply don’t have it. There will be no processing fee charged for refunds.

All registered cyclists must submit their preference through www.wildaltlanticmizencycle.com on or before Sunday 31st May 2020 and their preference will be processed before the 30th June 2020. Should people choose not to respond, their registration and donation (if any) will be automatically deferred to the 2021 event. A email will issue to all participants before 30th June 2020 confirming their selected preference.

For those who have purchased multiple tickets, the online form will have to be filled out for each individual ticket.

We are immensely proud of the fact that our event (albeit a small event compared to others) has sold out very fast in the last number of years. In our 16 years to date we have raised over €525,000 for over 70 West Cork based charities. Having to cancel this year’s cycle has deeply saddened us considering these funds are very much needed at this time.

Finally, we would like to publicly thank all of our colleagues in the frontline Health Services for their ongoing efforts during this current pandemic. We wish them well over the next few weeks and months ahead.

21 March 2020

The 2020 Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle is due to take place on 11 July 2020, 16 weeks from today. At present, all preparations for this year’s cycle are going ahead as normal.

Ultimately, we will be guided by advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team and the Health Service Executive. If there is any change in our position, updates will be issued on our social media platforms, our website and all participants will be emailed.

Please remember that social distancing is an essential part of slowing the spread of coronavirus. In order to pull together we must stay apart.

Stay safe everyone and we hope we will see you all in July.

21 January 2020

Unfortunately not everyone was able to get a place on the cycle. We set a maximum number of cyclists  for the event, primarily out of concern for the safety of all participants, but also in consideration of the other road users on the narrow roads of West Cork.  We also want to be able to ensure that we look after those who do get to take part as well as possible. Regrettably, we won’t be reopening registration and we don’t have a waiting list but it is possible to add your name to a mailing list to ensure that you get early warning of the registration date next year. Closer to the event, it may be worthwhile keeping an eye on our Facebook page as people may have to cancel or may be willing to transfer their registration. Thanks for your interest, we’re sorry we couldn’t accommodate everyone.
