WILD ATLANTIC MIZEN CYCLE - 13 JULY 2024

NEWS

21 September 2018

The Emergency Services have run a charity cycle in West Cork for the last 15 years raising €495,000 to date for local charities and Community projects. A total of 66 organisations have now benefited from the Cycle.

This year we are delighted to have raised €28,000 for our beneficiaries.

The Cycle’s finances are totally transparent and have been posted on this facebook page and our website; every effort is made to maximise the money going to the beneficiaries and to minimise the costs.

In 2018 the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle gave €28,000 to six beneficiaries;
€5500 – Bandon Area Special Children
€5500 – Bantry Inshore Search & Rescue Association
€5000 – Cork ARC Cancer Support House
€5000 – Dunmanway Community Garden – Grow it, Cook it, Eat it
€3000 – Huntington’s Disease Association of Ireland
€2500 – Dunmanway Community Council

Donations of €750 were also presented to Bantry Bay Lions Club and Durrus Mens Shed in recognition of the contribution they made to the cycle.

Presentation of cheques to beneficiaries took place on 20th September in The Bantry Bay Hotel.

Once again a huge thanks to the cyclists who took part, all of our sponsors and also the many volunteers who made the day such a success.

This wraps up the 2018 event. The 2019 cycle takes place on 13th July 2019. We hope to open registration in January.

The event will again be limited to 500 cyclists.

Keep an eye on this page for information on registering or sign up to our mailing list on our website. We will be emailing those on the mailing list and those who have registered for our cycle previously with notice of registration opening.

Finally we are now taking applications for beneficiaries for the 2019 cycle. If you are part of an organisation based in West Cork or know of one please email wamcycle@gmail.com for an application form.

We are delighted to announce that €28000 will be donated to the beneficiaries of this year’s cycle; Cork ARC, Bantry Lifeboat, Dunmanway Community Council, Bandon Area Special Children, Dunmanway Community Garden & Huntington’s Disease Ireland, and Bantry Lions Club & Durrus Men’s Shed (who we will be giving donations to). Full details of all our income and expenditure is attached.

A presentation night will be organised in the next few weeks to hand over the money.

Once again we would like to thank everyone who cycled, volunteered and helped out in any way both on the day and in the days leading up to the event.

Also again a huge thanks to our many sponsors. It is their generosity that helps to keep our running costs as low as possible.

Next years cycle will take place on Saturday 13th July 2019. Keep an eye on your email, as we will let all this year’s cyclists and those on the waiting list know in advance of registration opening. Places will again be limited next year to a maximum of 500.

Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle 2018

We would like to sincerely thank all our all sponsors (as you can see there are many!), media partners and all the volunteers – our emergency services colleagues, bike mechanics, marshal’s, photographers, those who helped at the food stops, water stops and bbq and all who helped out at the bucket collection the day before the cycle.
Thanks to everyone who helped both on the day and in the days leading up to the event for helping to make last Saturday such a success.

Money wise we did very well. As we do every year, we will publish our accounts on Facebook and on this website in the next few weeks.

Those who have been offered places were offered a place based on their position on the list i.e. those who signed up to the list earliest were more likely to get a place.

We will email all those who take part this year as well as all those on the waiting list with advance warning of registration opening for next years event.
