The Emergency Services have run a charity cycle in West Cork for the last 16 years raising €525,000 to date for local charities and Community projects. A total of 70 organisations have now benefited from the Cycle.
This year we are delighted to have raised €28,250 for our beneficiaries.
The Cycle’s finances are totally transparent and have been posted on this facebook page and our website; every effort is made to maximise the money going to the beneficiaries and to minimise the costs.
In 2019 the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle gave €28,250 to 6 beneficiaries;
€6500 – Friends Of Skibbereen Community Hospital
€4000 – Bantry Hospice Project
€4500 – West Cork Women Against Violence Project
€4500 – Schull Community Care
€3500 – SEN Room Caheragh National School
€3500 – Bantry Defibrillation Group
Donations of €750 were also presented to Bantry Bay Lions Club and Durrus Mens Shed and also €250 to Goleen Community Council in recognition of the contribution their organisations made to the cycle.
Presentation of cheques to beneficiaries took place last night in The Bantry Bay Hotel.
Once again a huge thanks to the cyclists who took part, all our sponsors main sponsors Cork County Council and PQMS Ltd, our local sponsors and also the many volunteers who made the day such a success.

We are delighted to announce that €28,000 will be donated to the beneficiaries of this year’s cycle; Bantry Hospice Project, Friends Of Skibbereen Community Hospital, Caheragh NS SEN Room, Schull Community Care, Bantry Defibrillation Group and West Cork Women Against Violence Project.
We will also be giving donations to Bantry Bay Lions Club & Durrus Men’s Shed. Full details of all our income and expenditure for this year is attached.
A presentation night will be organised in the next few weeks to hand over the proceeds of this years cycle.
This event began in 2004 as the West Cork Emergency Services & Friends Charity Cycle. It was the brainchild of Garry Minihane and was run by Garry, George Lane, Jim Keane, Seamus O’ Mahony, Dick Roycroft and Tony Walsh for 11 years. The après cycle BBQ was facilitated by the crew of Skibbereen Fire Station from 2004 – 2011.
With €28,000 raised this year, this charity event has in its 16 years now raised over €500,000 for charities and beneficiaries in the West Cork area.
We would like to thank everyone who cycled, volunteered, all our colleagues in the West Cork Emergency Services and anyone who helped out in any way during this and previous years cycles.
Also again, huge thanks to our many local sponsors and our main sponsors for the last 3 years; Cork County Council and PQMS Ltd. It is their generosity that helps to keep our running costs as low as possible.

Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle Waiting List
As we have had only a small amount of cancellations we have only been able to offer a small amount of late places for this years cycle. We have emailed all those on the waiting list letting everyone know whether we have been able to offer them a place or not.
Those who have been offered places were offered a place based on their position on the list i.e. those who signed up to the list earliest were more likely to get a place.
We will email all those who take part this year as well as all those on the waiting list with advance warning of registration opening for next years event.
